Reggae Night: The Trees of Life – $5

The Trees of Life, based in the Orlando and Daytona Beach area of Central Florida, spent their early days gaining traction with local music fans, and are quickly evolving into a regionally-respected live act with growing success on digital distribution channels such as iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify. From supporting roles opening for touring behemoths such as The Original Wailers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Stephen Marley, and The Supervillains, to headlining roles at the 2022 Ormond Beach Live Original Music & Art Festival. The band’s strength and versatility as a live act has paved the way for the success of their early studio releases.

The band name is derived from the Tree of Life, which typically symbolizes the connection between all living things and all forms of creation. This has been adapted to represent the band’s positive message of hope and unity. “We wanted to come up with a name that means something to everyone—regardless of whether or not people know its significance to us personally. The name “Trees of Life” held a unique meaning to everyone who saw it before anyone ever heard the music behind it. We thought that was pretty resonant, so it stuck,” said Smoof, the lead vocalist of TOL, when asked where the name came from.

This band not only connects onstage, but has a strong relationship off stage that creates a positive energy as a group which others can feel and involve themselves in. Each band member has his own history of how he got to this point in his music career, and how they got together. Their musical style is a fusion of Reggae, Surf Rock, and Jam bands that have influenced each member individually to create the bigger picture that you see performed on stage. From Dispatch, Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, State Radio, Citizen Cope, Pepper, Peter Tosh, James Brown, The Roots, Sly and The Family Stone, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Fugees. “To be honest, we gain inspiration all around us,” said Skylar, the Drummer of TOL.
